Band offers high-energy performance of their song 'My Body.'

If there's one time of the year when acts have the opportunity to make a big impression onstage, it's the annual MTV Video Music Awards. And Young the Giant did just that when the indie band charged through a performance of their song "My Body" nearside a crowd of fans for their VMA performance debut on Sunday night (August 28).
From the back of a catwalk that led into a sea of fans, YTG kicked off their set in the near dark as lights to the stage flickered around them. Lead singer Sameer Gadhia swayed from side to side as he belted out the song using two different microphones. As the performance continued, the frontman ran down the catwalk and leaped into the arms of his jumping fans as they carried him back to the blinking stage.
"Hey! Is it my fault that/ The fallen embers burn/ Down in a spiral/ Round your crown of thieves?" he crooned.
Young the Giant took to their Twitter just days ago to remind fans that they could join the indie quintet near the awards show stage. Soon after the reminder, the band announced that the lucky spots had been filled, writing, "All spots to be on stage at our VMA performance are filled! Can't wait to see you all there in 5 DAYS!"
As the only rock band to perform at this year's festivities, Young the Giant recently spoke to MTV News about their big performance, admitting that they even canceled a few gigs to make room for their attendance.
"We canceled Reading and Leeds [festivals] because of the VMAs," frontman Gadhia shared. "I mean, we always watched them, ever since we were little ... and we're from Los Angeles, so we figured it would be a great opportunity. Hopefully people in the U.K. will forgive us. I know some people are already annoyed."
