Robert Pattinson: 'Breaking Dawn' Probably Won't Be Rated PG-13

The Twilight films may be based on a popular young-adult series, but Robert Pattinson says that the final Twilight films may be strictly for grown-ups. Pattinson has been filming the first installment of Breaking Dawn, in which the vampire Edward (Pattinson) and human teenager Bella (Kristen Stewart) marry and have a baby. Sure, it sounds sweet and innocent -- until you factor in the sex and violence... and a truly bizarre childbirth scene.

"There's some interesting and weird stuff going on -- really very, very, very strange," the actor says in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly. "It's great. For a big, mainstream movie, it's the most obscure storyline and really outside the box. It's a horror movie."

"I just can't see how it's going to be PG-13... unless they cut everything out," he adds.

One of those moments that could get the MPAA's attention is the infamous birth scene, in which (spoilers!) Edward performs a vampire caesarean on a dying Bella. Pattinson confirmed recently that, yes, he filmed a scene where he was gnawing on a fake placenta. The whole thing, he says, was so weird that it was "kind of hilarious."

Pattinson admits that for his costar Stewart, filming the birth scene wasn't as taxing as wearing a prosthetic belly. "She has to have this pregnant suit on all the time, that was probably more annoying for her," Pattinson tells USA Today.

So far, all the films in the Twilight saga have been rated PG-13, allowing all those teen Twihards to sigh over Edward, Jacob and Bella without adult supervision. Some fans have been advocating for an R rating for Breaking Dawn, in the interest of staying true to the graphic scenes in the book. But screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg says it's really not necessary to tell the story.

"For me it's actually more interesting to not see it," the writer told the LA Times in June. "You know, you can do childbirth without seeing childbirth... it doesn't mean it's any less evocative of an experience."

Well, we may not see it -- but it sounds like they definitely filmed it!
